JLB Ranch is a pristine, 50,000 acres of Kansas Flint Hills, commercial beef cattle operation. The operation is owned by native Texan Jim Bosler and family. Jim recently retired from a successful career in real estate development across the U.S. Jim and his wife divide their time between the JLB Ranch headquarters and Denver, Colorado.
As a real estate developer, the wide-open expansiveness of the Flint Hills was intriguing to Bosler as well as the history of the area as a near perfect environment for the development of a diversified beef cattle operation. Bosler made the initial purchase in 2011 and spent the next decade acquiring additional acreage.
A keystone to every successful ranching operation is rock-solid management. Lifelong cattleman Jason Dierks, his wife, Mickey, and sons Luke and Sage are the core of the JLB Ranch management team. Jason and his team are responsible for all day-to-day operations on the JLB Ranch.
Flint Hills Geography
The Flint Hills is a four-million-acre region in eastern Kansas and northeastern Oklahoma (Osage Country) and is one of the last remaining tallgrass prairie-ecosystems in the world. Each year, more than a half-million yearling cattle are turned out in early spring to add inexpensive weight gain. At the end of the growing season, those cattle move on to a feedyard to finish on a corn-based ration before moving through processing and into retail distribution across America.
The Flint Hills is also home to diversified, commercial cow-calf operations, adding more than 250,000 beef cows to the ecosystem. The open prairie is conducive to excellent herd health, husbandry and nature’s answer to producing pure prairie protein.
